Our Nation's Heros

“The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of heroes who fought and worked to save the Union.”

As part of the Major General Thomas H. Ruger Camp #1 commitment to meet this mission of the SUVCW, we have established this section to honor all those Union Veterans with direct linage to the Brothers of Major General Thomas H. Ruger Camp #1.

The Camp Commander, Officers and Staff of the Department of North Carolina and Ruger Camp #1 encourage all Brothers to participate in honoring our Civil War ancestors.

Those Brothers wishing to honor their American Civil War descendants may submit a biography to the Ruger Camp #1 Signals Officer.

There are no established restrictions or rules on submitting an ancestral biography. Please review all current biographies posted on the website. They reflect the basic presentation for future contributions.

The biographies can be submitted via email as attachments, or by use of a UBS Flash/Thumb Drive. All text should be Microsoft Word documents, or equivalent formats. Images are encouraged and may be included in the submitted document or provided as a separate attachment/file. Should images not be included appropriate public domain images, (civil war photos, regimental flag, etc...) related to the events described, may be selected by the Signals Officer and added during publication to provide a more dynamic and interesting posting.

Submission Guidelines:
For consistency in appearance and layout, the Signals Officer may change formatting, fonts, punctuation and image locations. Spelling corrections or grammatical errors will be made based on common rules of grammar, sentence structure and usage. These postings are intended for reading by the general public and may not represent a truly scholarly approach or presentation.

Other than as described above; the Signals Officer will not change the essential content of the biography, its historical details or family lineage. Before publishing, the Signals Officer may, at his discretion, contact the contributor concerning any significant changes being considered to the as submitted biography. However, minor modifications will not require approval prior to publication.

If after the publishing on the Major General Thomas H. Ruger Camp #1 website, the contributor wishes or add, edit for correct any portions of the biography, the Signals Office welcomes being contacted concerning such changes or modifications. All reasonable requests for change will be made. Changes will be implemented based on the Signals Officer's availability at the time of request.
